Hotel workers to see increase in weekly wages as of 1st January 2022

The Antigua & Barbuda Workers’ Union advises its members, who are employed by hotels that are members of the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association and signatory to the ABHTA & ABWU collective agreements, of an increase of $16.00 dollars weekly effective January 01, 2022.

This increase comes as a result of negotiated collective agreements for the period of 1st January 2019 – 31st December 2021. The $16.00 dollar increase referred to should have taken effect 1st January 2021, however, due to the catastrophic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality industry, the increase was deferred to January 2022.

The Antigua & Barbuda Workers’ Union is pleased that employees in the hotel industry can now benefit from this increase, having suffered precipitously from the lockdowns and travel restrictions of the past two years.

We further wish to advise that negotiations for the present collective bargaining period of 1st January 2022 – 31st, December 2024 are ongoing with the ABHTA, and future announcements would be made.
