Staff Future Uncertain! Another Hotel about to buckle

The Management of Rex Hawksbill yesterday advised all employees via a Memo of the company’s decision to place them on shortened work week, rotation and even to the point of Lay off.

The Antiguan Trumpet got a copy of the memo to the staff which read: “The recent lockdown of the major source markets and the new introduction by the Center for Disease Control, requesting travelers entering the United States to have a negative Civid-19 test result has once again impacted on our occupancies here at Hawskbill where for the next three or four weeks we will have occupancies not more than 3% and some days 0% guest on property”.

The memo to employees went on to state: “As a result, we have to immediately put staff on rotation and in some cases, temporary lay-off will come into effect”.

Rex Hawksbill is the second property in less than 24hr to advise employees of reduction in hours and lay-off as a result of the changing conditions due to various travel restrictions.

The Rex Hawksbill’s sister property Halcyon Cove is presently the Government Quarantine facility was closed early March 2020 for renovations but it unclear when that property will reopen
