Protocols are being put in place for the funeral of Sir Lester Bird

It is much too early to confirm which regional leader will be attending the funeral service of the later Sir Lester Bird; however Chief of Staff in the PM’s Office Lionel Hurst says a number of them were invited.

The funeral is carded for the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium next week Thursday, August 26.

Hurst says that several protocols are being put in place for the funeral, while two activities are planned before the event.

“Barnes Funeral Home is somewhat responsible but they are working with a team from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Health and Social Transformation. All are expected to go well.”

“ There are going to be two events before the funeral. The first will be when the body is taken to the parliament building, it will lay in state for about four or five hours and on the second day it will proceed down to 46th North Street and there it will always lie in state. Then the third day will be the day of the funeral,” Hurst added.

Antigua and Barbuda plunged into mourning after news broke that former Prime Minister Sir Lester Bird died last week.

The islands major hospital was renamed the Sir Lester Bird Mount St John’s Medical Centre in May.

The 83-year-old will be given a state funeral on August 26 and will be buried next to his mother.
