Dominica records its first COVID-19 death

Earlier yesterday August 17, Health Minister Dr Irvin McIntyre has confirmed that Dominica had recorded its first COVID-19 death.

He told the nation that a 46-year-old female with underlying pre-existing health conditions was admitted to the COVID isolating unit on August 14, 2021, and died on August 17, 2021.

In less than a month Dominica recorded over 700 cases of the virus.

The government has also extended the 6 pm to 5 am curfew until August 24, with a complete lock-down from Friday to 6 am on Monday.

On August 16, Dominica was among 4 destinations added to the US CDC’s highest-risk Level 4 destinations for travellers.

Before its latest rating, the country was a level 1 destination meaning low risk.
