Canada- Protestors Bank Accounts Can Now Be Frozen as Penalty

What began as a small demonstration against a mandate that all truckers must be vaccinated to cross the US-Canada border, or quarantine upon return, has grown into an all-out protest against all, if not most Covid health restrictions in the country.

So far, efforts to curb the uprisal have proved futile as the protests continue on daily, but yesterday, Prime Minister Trudeau announced that with no need for court orders, banks can now freeze personal accounts of anyone linked with the protests.

“This is about keeping Canadians safe, protecting people’s jobs,” Mr Trudeau told a news conference on Monday. He also stated that police would be given “more tools” to imprison or fine protesters and protect critical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, protests are ongoing in various parts of the country. In Ottawa, between 400 to 500 trucks have been parked in the city center for 18 days.

border crossing at Coutts, Alberta, and Emerson, Manitoba have also been blocked by protesters. 11 people in Alberta were arrested by police on Monday.
