Over 60 monohulls and multihulls are currently on the scratch sheet with less than five months until the start of Antigua Sailing Week.
A large number of sailors from all over the world are looking forward to a magnificent return to action in the Caribbean’s oldest and most prestigious race.
Jaime Torres, ASW Racing Manager, examines the excellent classes prepared for the major regatta.
“Performance and planning skill are the major factors for racing class divides; length is a secondary measure to speed.” Torres, who has raced in a wide range of boats during Antigua Sailing Week, said.
“Rather than overall length, the race management team is looking at class divisions depending on boat type,” he added.
The ASW Racing Manager explained that “this will result in classes with really thrilling boat-to-boat racing.” While it is practically difficult to establish a class split that pleases all racers, our primary goal is to build classes with boats that have similar sail patterns, planning abilities, and are rated similarly.”
