Former Minister of Education tells his side of the story

Michael Browne, the All Saints West MP, provided his side of the story and delivered sworn testimony in his criminal trial on Monday, June 6th.

Browne has three options: offer sworn testimony and be questioned, give unsworn testimony and avoid being cross-examined, or keep silent. The first choice was chosen by the defendant.

Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel-Edwards found a prima facie case against the accused in April 2021 and sent the case to the higher court for the September 2021 assizes.

In November 2020, Browne was charged for allegedly committing a serious offence, the specifics of which are confidential under the law.

Browne pled not guilty to the allegations in July, and a judge-only trial before Justice Colin Williams was scheduled for November 26.

The complaint against the 45-year-old defendant began with sworn testimony from the plaintiff.

After that, around five more witnesses entered the witness box. The defendant’s sworn testimony was given this afternoon in the case.
