Prime Minister Gaston Browne will be writing to the US and UK government in his capacity as Chairman of CARICOM, seeking to secure Pfizer vaccines for children between 5 and 11.
Additionally, he will be asking the UK for a contribution of the COVID-19 antiviral pill molnupiravir.
On November 4 Britain became the first country in the world to approve the potentially game-changing COVID-19 antiviral pill.
“We continue to monitor development in the US and the UK on the Pfizer and the molnupiravir which will reduce the risk of hospitalization and death for those who contract COVID,” PM Browne says.
“We are hoping that testing would be accelerated so that the pills would be available on the market and we can access them. I am also writing to the USA to make some available to CARICOM and also the Pfizer vaccines for children…we are asking the USA to make some available for us so we can get our children vaccinated,” CARICOM Chairman, Gaston Browne added.
Molnupiravir is an antiviral pill that aims to prevent mild to moderate cases of covid-19 from becoming severe cases that result in hospitalization or death.
People who have covid-19 take the drug twice a day for five days, starting within five days of the onset of symptoms.
