Satisfactory start to 2021 Exam, says Education Officials

With the reintroduction of the Grade Six National Assessment this year, following its cancellation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, education officials are reporting a satisfactory start to the 2021 exam.

The Head of the unit said no difficulties were encountered on Tuesday, May 8 that hampered the execution of the exit exams.

One thousand four hundred and fifty-six students wrote Language Arts and Science on Wednesday, May 9, while Social Studies and Mathematics will be administered today Thursday, May 10.

Among the students writing the examinations are three homeschooled boys, an option of primary education offered to parents and guardians in 2020 by the Ministry of Education.

Results of this year’s Grade Six National Assessment are expected by July 2, 2021.

Meantime, Grades 2 and 4 National Assessments remain cancelled for a second year.

These evaluations are used to analyze students’ levels of competencies and to determine what remedial work must be carried out.

This year, schools were required to submit end of term results and tables of certification, which were then measured against the curriculum to ascertain students’ competencies.
