Electoral Commission asked to Prepare for General Election

The Cabinet has instructed the Supervisor of Elections to make the arrangements to purchase ballot paper and to acquire all other supplies necessary to conduct free and fair elections.

The Supervisor was also tasked to ensure that all human and material resources required to hold flawless elections are available to the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission in quick order.

There are reports in some circles that due to the pressures of the pandemic and the near calaspe of the economy the Gaston Browne Administration will be seeking a fresh mandate from the electorate.

It was a few weeks ago that PM Browne announced, that they were in consultation with the IMF regarding fiscal support, a position which he later retracted from inlight of internal Party concerns.

One Member of the Cabinet who spoke to the Antigua Trumpet said “going to the IMF before elections is a No No, its Political suiside, it is against our Party‘s position”.

The PM’s signal for a replacement candidate for MP Asot Micheal in the St Peter’s Constituency and his recent attacks on the Opposition, United Progressive Party are all signs that the country is gearing up for General Elections.
