Former Hadeed Motors employee convicted on six fraud-related charges
A former car dealership employee has been convicted on six fraud-related charges following a scheme that involved the theft and illegal sale of a vehicle through manipulation of company records.
Dylan Simon, who worked as a clerk and sales representative at Hadeed Motors from 1998 to 2020, was found guilty by Justice Stanley John on charges of electronic forgery, forgery, uttering, larceny by a clerk, obtaining money by false pretences, and money laundering.
He has been remanded to prison and is scheduled to appear for sentencing on December 11. This marks Simon’s second conviction for similar offenses. Last year, he was found guilty of electronic forgery and fined $100,000 for committing the same type of fraud involving a different vehicle at Hadeed Motors.
The current case centres on the same events that occurred in early 2020, when Simon allegedly stole a Suzuki Vitara by creating fraudulent documentation to make it appear the vehicle had been legitimately purchased and paid for.
According to evidence presented in court, Simon committed electronic forgery by entering false information into the company’s computer system, indicating that a female customer had paid for the SUV with a check that never existed. He then completed an entry-exit form for the vehicle, allowing it to leave the compound despite no payment having been made.
