Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Engages in Key Global Discussions

Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, E. Paul Chet Greene, has concluded a busy series of engagements at the United Nations General Assembly, representing the nation’s stance on pressing global issues.

Today, Minister Greene participated in a U.S.-convened meeting focused on the escalating crisis in Haiti, where armed gangs have overtaken the capital. The session, led by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, included ministers from several CARICOM nations as well as representatives from Africa, Europe, and Latin America.

Continuing his diplomatic efforts, Greene addressed the G20 meeting, highlighting a significant oversight in their “Call to Action on Global Governance Report,” which only briefly mentioned climate change and completely omitted Small Island Developing States. “This must be corrected,” he stated.

Additionally, Minister Greene spoke at a multi-stakeholder panel discussing the legal aspects of sea level rise and participated in a crucial side event titled “United by Water: Securing Our Collective Water Future Amidst Rising Seas and Melting Glaciers.”

Yesterday, he held bilateral discussions with Azerbaijan, set to host COP29 later this year, where he, along with Minister of the Environment Sir Molwyn Joseph, advocated for the needs of small island nations. Greene also expressed optimism following talks with the Philippines, aiming to enhance cooperation in maritime sectors, renewable energy, and tourism.

As the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly continues, Minister Greene looks forward to further advancing Antigua and Barbuda’s interests and fostering beneficial international relationships.
