The public is being warned to stop defacing campaign Paraphernalia

The Police Administration has been alerted to the fact that certain persons are going about destroying or defacing election billboards and other materials for different politicians running in the next general elections.

According to Section 33 of Chapter 405 of the Small Charges Act of the Laws of Antigua and Barbuda, it is unlawful and malicious for anybody to damage any personal property. The police are warning members of the public of this.

A fine of no more than $500 or a period of incarceration of no more than six months are the penalties for violating this law, and they must be paid upon conviction.

Atlee Rodney, the commissioner of police, has issued an appeal to individuals engaged, pleading with them to stop engaging in this illegal activity and respect the advantages and rights enjoyed by all citizens in our democratic society.

In order to behave properly and responsibly during the duration of their campaigns leading up to the January 18 general elections, Commissioner Rodney is urging all validly nominated candidates and their supporters.
