APUA Says That Demand for Water is Way Higher than Production Level

Cabinet met with several members of APUA including the General Manager of APUA, the Water Manager and the Supervisor Responsible for water valves to discuss the impounding issue of water scarcity in Antigua and Barbuda.

During the discussion, it was determined that the main issue is that not enough water is being produced to meet the demands of the citizens.

The APUA Team also informed that the drought is getting worse, however the company is working to increase output by adding new membranes and new filters to unit number 8 at Crabbes Peninsular.

Demand for water at this time exceeds 8 million gallons daily while production is 6.5 million gallons per day.

The team also explained the strategies intended to solve the issue which include bringing online the new Fort James Plant and constructing the Bethesda plant and regular maintenance of the Barnacle Point and the Camp Blizzard plants.

The Cabinet decided that it will summon the APUA Water Manager to its meeting every week until the issue is resolved.
