The Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) will be hosting its annual National Youth Awards on July 16, 2022. A number of young people will be acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to various fields of national development such as entrepreneurship, education, tourism, performing arts, and journalism.
Awardees must fall within the age category of youth 12–35 years old and must also be anational of Antigua and Barbuda. The criteria also state that youth must be resident in Antigua & Barbuda and must be in good social standing, civic-minded and patriotic.
“The DYA has intensified its preparations for the National Youth Awards and we believe that recognizing the accomplishments of hard-working young people is an important way to keep them engaged,” said Director of Youth Affairs Dr. Jrucilla Samuel.
“Young Pioneer, Young Phoenix, Young Artisan, and Young Activist are just a few of the awards that we are seeking nominations, so we encourage the public to submit some names of youth who are making a difference and are eligible for the awards” she added.
The DYA held its first virtual National Youth Awards in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. More than a dozen young people of diverse backgrounds were awarded for their extraordinary nation-building efforts.
The department also heaped praises on young people who may not be working in the forefront, but continue to have a significant impact on the social, economic, and political development of this twin-island state.
