Freedom Fighters Protestors May Walk Free if Prosecutors Continue to Delay Case

Donette Simon of Tindale Road and Shenel Williams of Villa may have their case thrown out, should the prosecution continue to have delays in their attempts to find evidence.

The two women are jointly accused of “organizing a prohibited public meeting” and participating in said event while Williams is additionally charged with incitement and encouraging unlawful behavior.

Monday marked the third request for adjournment due to inability to produce police evidence against the women and the defense team and the magistrate both agreed that this was unacceptable.

However, the magistrate granted one final adjournment and declared, “If we cannot start then, I am going to dismiss this matter completely.”

Disclosure was also ordered to be made within 24 hours and the next date set for March 2 where the women will enter pleas and the trial will proceed on that very day if the pair denies committing the offences,

Simon, 34, and Williams, 29, were granted bail in the sum of $15,000 with a $1,000 cash component since their first court appearance. They were among several persons arrested after a protest against Covid-related protocols on August 8 2021.
