Some Good News- Active COVID-19 Cases descend

As of Monday 29th November 2021, at 6 PM, the total number of active COVID-19 cases for Antigua and Barbuda was down to 6. This ray of good news comes amid worldwide fears of a deadly new Coronavirus Variant- Omicron which was said to be first detected in South Africa and seen major countries close their borders to certain African countries.

The report which was released by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, further stated that out of 54 samples processed, there were no new laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in the twin island nation.

There were also 2 more recovered cases, increasing the total number to four thousand one hundred and eighteen (4,018)

Furthermore, the total number of fully vaccinated individuals has risen to fifty-six thousand two hundred and nineteen (56,219) while five thousand one hundred and ninety-nine (5,199) have only received their first dose.

Antigua’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases thus far is four thousand one hundred and forty-one (4,141) – just about 4.17 percent of the country’s total population.

Antigua’s economy was near crippled by the Coronavirus pandemic, with the lockdowns devastating the tourism sector and causing thousands to be laid off from their jobs.

With Covid cases lowering, and the vaccination rates rising throughout the islands, the Government and citizens are looking forward to brighter days and possibly a more economical and social improvements in the coming year.

Regardless of the decrease in Covid cases, the general public is encouraged to continue following protocols and to obtain their COVID-19 vaccination if they have not already done so.
