The government of Guyana and Barbados have both committed to working jointly to promote two of their unique travel destinations around the world so that one day they could become the powerhouse of tourism in the whole Caribbean.
The Minister of Tourism, Commerce, and Industry, Oneidge Waldron and the Barbadian Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Lisa Cummings, made this commitment on Friday at a simple ceremony marking the new Inter-Caribbean inaugural flight from Barbados to Guyana.
The Inter Caribbean safely landed at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Guyana, with 48 passengers, including an official of the Bajan government.
The official said, “Although Guyana does not sport white sandy beaches or clear blue water, it does have similar qualities like Barbados in terms of catering tourists.”
“This is due to which both governments at their level have committed to joint destination marketing: the sun, beaches of Barbados, and Guyana’s beautiful forest and nature. We are committed to catering these two islands to the world.
Meanwhile, Barbadian Minister Cummings asked for more cargo trade between two nations where two nations can support each other by availing goods and services to each other, creating a new market for people.
She further added that, “This will play an important role in developing bilateral relations between two nations. Both countries are also committed to allowing airtime to share opportunities available.”
Barbados is already helping nourish Guyana’s Tourism Sector with over 6,000 Guyana people to receive world-class hospitality training, which will eventually enhance their local capacity.
Minister Waldron acknowledged and supported the statements by Barbadian Minister Cummings and pledged to continue to partner with Barbados as the government intends to develop Guyana as a tourist attraction. (Associates Times)
