American University of Antigua clears air on False News provided by the Antigua Newsroom

The American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine Campus is dismissing claims that a student had committed suicide on campus.

In a statement to the media issued this afternoon, the University confirmed that a student who was enrolled at AUA did pass away.

But the University said, in keeping with the wishes of the family who asked that their privacy be respected, the Campus made no comments on it.

However, the University says they are providing clarity on the matter without violating the privacy of the family.

The student in question left Antigua some time ago and has been away since then, according to the statement.

And, the unfortunate incident occurred in late October in the United States.

They were responding to an article published by the Antigua News Room on its website on November 2nd 2021 entitled “SUSPECTED SUICIDE ROCKS AUA.”

The University said though the incident did not take place on campus or on the island itself, they felt that the fact that students could read the article and, based on the inaccurate fashion in which the facts are presented in the story, they could assume a death did occur on island.
