Prime minister Gaston Browne says former LIAT pilot Captain Neil Cave of Barbados needs to keep quiet.
Cave, according to Browne has been attacking him on social media simply to create confusion.
The former LIAT pilot is leading a constitutional motion filed recently in the High Court in St John’s against the government, challenging the constitutionality of the recently amended Companies Act which prohibits anyone from suing the Antigua and Barbuda government over any claims against LIAT.
Browne addressed the issue again recently by stating that he has recognized a guy from Barbados (Cave) is attacking him.
“He has one of the worse attendant records in the history of the operations of LIAT and I want to tell him that he needs to keep quiet,” PM Browne expressed.
“I recognize what he is trying to do. He wants to create confusion and he wants everything to crash. This is a man who did not fly for LIAT from about 2016/2017, so when they speak you must know that they have these underlined issues, these rotten elements always feel that they can go and attack leaders within the region.”
Meanwhile, Browne says the 50% compassionate payment offered to LIAT staff will not be changed. In fact, Browne says they have no choice.
“If you want to discuss the details, the mechanics fine, but you first have to accept the choice. If we add a legal liability to the staff of LIAT it would be based on our shares. We own about 35% of the shares of LIAT so it would have meant that we add about 35% of the liability.”
“Here is the situation in which we are extending a generous offer of 50%, when we pay that 50% we will be paying as a preferred creditor because what will happen is that all of the travel assets of LIAT, the staff will have to surrender to Antigua and Barbuda,” PM Browne states.
