ABFA Presidential hopeful calls recent appointments Unconstitutional

The Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Presidential hopeful, Barbara Coates, is calling the recent appointments of Technical Director and Referee Co-ordinator by the ABFA President Everton Gonsalves on July 2 unconstitutional.

According to Coates, the ABFA Constitution states in Article 32 (3) The mandate of the President, Vice President and members of the Executive Committee is for four years.

These appointments came after the 4 years mandated term of the executive which ended on 22 May 2021 she said.

Further, Coates says, the process itself comes under scrutiny and contravenes Articles 34 and 35 of the constitution.

She adds that the ABFA Constitutions states in Article 34 – The Executive Committee (a) shall pass decisions on all cases that do not come within the sphere of responsibility of the Congress or are not reserved for other bodies by law or under these statutes.

The decision she said was not discussed and voted on at an Executive Meeting. It was not ratified.

It is on this premise that Coates is requesting that the President of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association rescind the appointments.
