As the debate on corporal punishment in schools continues, Health and Family Life Educator Genie Jeffrey believe there is a need for the re-introduction of health and family life education in schools.
Jeffrey is of the view that such a program would be helpful in today’s environment.
“Because we have so many different non-nationals and everyone has their own culture, we need to bring back Health and Family Life Education in schools because a lot of things are being taught in that program,”
“We use to have classes for parents, especially those who have children who are giving problems. We need to have classes so that they can get incite in dealing with children,” Jeffrey added.
“The parents are all tired from work and no one is there to guide the students when they come home from school. No one is there to show them love and understanding. This is not right, therefore having this program back in schools will help guide both parents and students,” Health and Family Life Educator Genie Jeffrey expressed.
The government is planning to hold several consultations with various stakeholders on the issue of corporal punishment, which the Cabinet has already stated that it is against.
