Nationally Approved Vaccine Still Not in Use

Weeks after the Pharmacy Council granted approval for the use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccines, the Health Ministry has not yet commenced the use of jabs.

The island already has 1000 shots of the vaccine in its possession and Information Minister Melford Nicholas explains why it has not yet been put to use.

“I believe the head of the Pharmacy Council, Mr Roberts would have made a press statement indicating that we have the emergency use authorization ready from the Pharmacy Council but there is some reticence by the advisory body in relation to awaiting the approval of the WHO.”

“That cautionary position has forced us to restrain ourselves in terms of making available the use of the Sputnik V vaccines,” Information Minister Melford Nicholas added.

On June 9 the country received a shipment of over 16,000 vaccines from the COVAX facility, having already gotten 14,600 in April.
