The newly appointed Minister of Education Daryll Matthew has indicated that there has been a delay in the acquisition by the government to precure laptops for those school children who do not own electronic devices.
Matthew while speaking on another media house indicated that the laptops have been ordered but shared that there has been a delay in the shipping of these items by the company in the US.
“There seems to be a back log with the company because we have already ordered the laptops. So, it is just for them to ship the items. We are not sure when this will be rectified but we are hoping it will happen very soon”, Matthew said.
Government some months ago revealed their plan to distribute laptops to those secondary school children who do not own electronic devices. This move was in an effort to ensure that no child would be left behind in the virtual school experience that they now have to dwell in.
The tablets which the secondary school students were given during another government program will then be handed down to the primary school students.
Last August, Information Melford Nicholas explained that the laptops will be formatted with a to prveent cheating during CXC Examinations.
It was estimated that the acquisition of these laptops will cost the government around $2 million dollars.
