Antigua and Barbuda Inflation rate near 3%

The latest release from the Statistic Division, Ministry of Finance and Corporate Governance indicates that the Inflation rate is 2.8 percent. 

This is the result of the data compiled for the 466 items in the monthly Consumer Price Index Basket compared for the year-on-year change between December 2019 and December 2020.

The largest category the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverage index increased 2.0% over the last twelve months. This was influence by a 4.6 percent increase in the Fruit index which rose 4.6%, a 4.2 percent increase in the the index for Milk, Cheese and Eggs, while Meat and Meat Products index which increased 1.6 percent for the period. 

The Index for Vegetables and Food Products N.E.C also rose 3.1 percent and 2.4 percent respectively. The index for All Items Less Food and Energy increased 4.4 percent over the past twelve months. 

Notable increases were in the index for Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance, 16.6 percent, the Transportation index which experienced an 11.9 percent increase due mainly to an increase in airlines fares. 

The index for Miscellaneous Goods and Services increased by 4.9% while the index for Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics rose 3.3%.

The Index for Restaurants and Hotels declined 2.2% its largest twelve-month decrease.
