MP Michael takes ALP to task for shortchanging Sir Rupert and asks comrades, ‘Were you there?’

Delivering the eulogy today at Sir Rupert’s funeral Member of Parliament for St. Peter, Asot Michael, who referred to the deceased as a member of his family.

Speaking truth to power, Michael spoke about several injustices meted out to Sir Rupert – even at the hands of his comrades in the Antigua Labour Party.

Sir Rupert was a staunch supporter of the Party and marched alongside its leaders in many public demonstrations against the Baldwin Spencer Administration, Michael claims.

Borrowing the phrase “Were You There?” – made popular by the late St. Lucian MP George Odlum at the funeral service of Leonard Tim Hector – Michael says that his friend and brother had to endure several humiliations.

Michael says that Sir Rupert was owed much more than he was given for placing Antigua and Barbuda on the map in the field of calypso and its spin-off economic benefits.
