Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley participated in the AgroFest on Friday,26 February 2021.
“Happy today to attend the AgroFest showcasing #Nevis Agriculture and pushing for greater food security for our island and Federation.”
Mark Brantley stated that he believes in local food and always promote local traditions and culture. “I am very impressed with the wide range of local produce available to us,” Brantley noted.
He also congratulated the Ministry of Agriculture Alexis Jeffers and stated that Jeffers’ team urged the public to buy and eat local.
As per the Ministry of Agriculture of Nevis, 162 hectares of land is under fruit trees, and there is 202 ha of pasture land for livestock & temporary crop, including vegetables.
In Nevis, vegetables & root crops are cultivated on a subsistence basis, and some cotton is grown for export. The livestock sector includes cattle, small ruminants and pigs.
As vaccination drive in St Kitts and Nevis at its peak, Premier Brantley shared some vaccination driver glimpses at AgroFest at the Villa grounds in Charlestown.
Nevis Premier said, “Please vaccinate to keep Nevis safe and allow us to reopen our island and get Nevisians back to work.”
Nevis Premier is continuously trying to evacuate the Nevis agriculture, “As a response to #Covid19, my government sought to stimulate the agricultural sector to ensure greater #FoodSecurity for #Nevis,” he said.
