Jamaica:St Ann businesswoman charged in alleged US work-and-travel fraud

The police in St Ann have charged 43-year-old businesswoman Snovia Campbell of Orange Hill in Brown’s Town with multiple fraud-related offences stemming from an alleged US work-and-travel scheme.

The police report that between 2023 and 2024, three people paid Campbell for US work-and-travel opportunities and visa appointment fees.

They allegedly paid a combined total of US$3,600 and J$161,000 but did not receive the services or refunds, according to the police.

After reportedly losing contact with Campbell and learning that she was in custody, the complainants went to the police and provided statements.

Campbell was subsequently interviewed and charged with three counts each of obtaining property by means of false pretence, fraudulent conversion, possession of criminal property, and engaging in a transaction involving criminal property.

Her court date is being finalised
