Caribbean countries have been warned to prepare for potentially worsening heat and drought conditions as the region enters a critical period of the wet season and Atlantic hurricane season.
The Caribbean Climate Outlook Forum has highlighted concerns about a strengthening El NiƱo and warming Caribbean waters.
These conditions could increase pressure on water supplies, agriculture and public health. Farmers may face difficulties maintaining crop production if rainfall becomes less reliable, while households could experience tighter water restrictions.
Governments and communities are being encouraged to conserve water, monitor weather forecasts and strengthen preparedness plans.
The warning also underscores the importance of climate adaptation in a region where many economies depend on agriculture, tourism and vulnerable coastal infrastructure.
