Police and Customs officers have seized 22 pounds of cannabis valued at an estimated EC$132,000 during a joint operation at V.C. Bird International Airport.

The seizure was made at approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, during a drug interdiction operation at the airport’s Cargo Shed.

According to police, officers from the Narcotics Department, working alongside members of the Customs Enforcement Unit, discovered two FedEx boxes containing 22 vacuum-sealed packages.

The packages contained a bushy substance suspected to be cannabis.

The boxes and their contents were seized and taken to Police Headquarters, where the substance was weighed and found to total approximately 22 pounds.

Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the discovery.

The seizure comes as law enforcement authorities continue efforts to intercept illegal drugs entering Antigua and Barbuda through the country’s ports of entry.
