A family member has identified the body discovered Friday morning in Barre Denis, south Castries, as that of 19-year-old Ziquan “Xavi” Hippolyte.
The lifeless male was found near a residence and pre-school, lying in a pool of blood. Community members reported hearing gunshots around 8 p.m. Thursday, and the body appeared to bear a gunshot wound to the head.
One woman told St. Lucia Times that the body was discovered near her home by her grandson.
“This morning I was preparing breakfast for my husband when my grandson passed by me, before going to school. When he came, he told me, ‘Mama, look, you have a dead body by the house’,” she said.
She proceeded to enquire of him further as to what he had seen before venturing outside to see for herself.
“When I looked and saw the body, I started to scream and called the teachers at the pre-school who came; they were the ones who called the police.”
No further details are available at this time.
