Government to Offer $150 Incentive for Removal of Derelict Vehicles
The government will roll out a new program offering $150 to private individuals who help remove derelict vehicles tagged by police for disposal, as part of a national cleanup effort.
The Ministry of Urban Development will manage the initiative in partnership with the National Solid Waste Management Authority and the Development Control Authority. The agencies will verify marked vehicles and ensure they are transported and disposed of at the Cooks Landfill.
Officials say closer coordination among agencies will prevent delays and duplication seen in earlier cleanup drives.
The Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation is expected to announce dates, times, and designated drop-off or collection points, along with details on how people can participate.
Derelict vehicles have long posed problems in several communities, contributing to pollution, pests, blocked sidewalks, drainage issues, and hazards for residents.
