The Browne’s Avenue Clinic is being relocated to the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC) which is situated at the former Holberton Hospital site.
This was confirmed by the Minister of Health Sir Molwyn Joseph, who informed the Cabinet last week that arrangements have been finalized for the immediate relocation of the clinic.
This temporary move will allow for essential repairs and upgrades to the Browne’s Avenue facility, thereby improving service delivery when it reopens.
During this period, healthcare services typically provided at Browne’s Avenue Clinic will be available at the Gray’s Farm Clinic on a scheduled basis. This measure is being implemented to ensure the uninterrupted provision of essential health services while enhancements are made to the Browne’s Avenue facility.
Sir Molwyn said a dedicated space at the Infectious Disease Centre (IDC) has been designated to provide specialized care for sickle cell patients, as part of the hospital’s expanded healthcare offerings. This new unit will be fully managed and staffed by the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
The Minister added that to complement services offered to patients, the Centre will also launch a national registration drive for all persons suffering from sickle cell disease in Antigua and Barbuda, with the aim of developing a comprehensive patient database to improve long-term care, treatment access, and resource planning.
