The Flyers Basketball Teams saw dramatically different results on Wednesday night at JSC Sports Complex, as their Division One squad dominated while their Division Two team struggled in Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association playoff action.
Flyers delivered an excellent show against All Saints Slam, securing an 86-59 victory in the ABBA Division One Playoffs to effectively close the series out in two games.
They established control early with a 19-12 first quarter lead and never looked back, extending their advantage in each subsequent period (27-15, 19-14, 21-18) for a convincing 27-point win.
EZ Fit showcased superior efficiency on both ends of the court, shooting 43% from the field compared to All Saints’ 29%. The Flyers dominated inside with 56 points in the paint while out-rebounding their opponents 60-46.
Adonis Humphreys led the Flyers with 15 points, while Selassie Brathwaite contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Despite the lopsided result, the season’s league top shooter, Humroy Wright put forth a valiant individual effort with a game-high 24 points in nearly 40 minutes of play. Iornie Joseph added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but the Slam struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout.
In stark contrast, the Flyers faced a tough 82-49 defeat at the hands of Cuties Ovals OJays in their Division 2 Playoff match-up earlier in the evening which saw their series also ended in two games.
OJays established their dominance early, racing to a commanding 28-10 first-quarter lead and never looked back. They maintained control throughout, winning the second quarter 22-14 and third quarter 22-16 before both teams scored evenly in the final period with 10-9.
Tequan Brodie led all scorers with an impressive 25-point performance for the OJays. He received strong support from Tajahron Davis who added 19 points, while Jayleyle Joseph contributed 10 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.
Flyers faced offensive difficulties throughout the contest, shooting just 23% from the field and 14% from beyond the arc. Despite the lopsided score, Delroy Foster worked hard on the boards with a game-high 17 rebounds, while Hansel Piper contributed 4 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 assists.
