Angela Mejia, the young woman accused of murdering 9-year-old Chantel Crump, made her second appearance in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday amid tight security.
Mejia was brought to court early in the morning, a move believed to be due to security concerns stemming from the high-profile nature of the case, which has caused widespread public outrage.
Since her initial appearance, where she was unrepresented, there have been reports that Mejia has been in discussions with former Director of Public Prosecutions, Anthony Armstrong. However, Observer media has learned that while Armstrong was approached, he has not been formally retained and has not received instructions to act on Mejia’s behalf.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the case was adjourned to September 17, 2025.
The 20-year-old woman was charged in March with the brutal murder of Chantel, whose naked body was discovered in the Weatherills area.
Mejia was previously remanded to His Majesty’s Prison following her first court appearance.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, but the case continues to generate emotional responses from members of the public who are closely following each development.
Chantel will be laid to rest on June 10, a day after she would have turned 10 years old.
