Hamilton Stars as Anguilla Defeat Antigua & Barbuda by 11 Runs

Jahmar Hamilton led Anguilla to secure an 11-run victory over Antigua & Barbuda in a thrilling encounter to move to the top of the table in the Leeward Islands T20 Cricket Festival on Wednesday at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, Anguilla posted a competitive 157 for four from their 20 overs, built around a quality knock of 52 from Hamilton. The opener faced 28 balls and struck six fours and four sixes, providing the perfect platform for his team’s total. Deon Burton contributed a valuable 30 not out from 29 balls with Jaidel Richardson providing excellent support with an unbeaten 27 off 17 balls.

Antigua & Barbuda’s bowling was led by captain Rahkeem Cornwall, who claimed one for 13 runs in four overs, while Hayden Walsh Jr picked up two for 29 in his four-over spell.

In reply, Antigua & Barbuda made a strong start but ultimately fell 11 runs short and were bowled out 146 in 19.3 overs. Michael Haynes Dover top-scored with a fighting 38 off 33 balls, including 5 fours, while Karima Gore contributed an aggressive 27 off just 17 balls with 3 sixes.

Francis on debutshowed promise with 23 off 11 balls in an explosive knock featuring four boundaries, and Kofi Jamesadded 18 runs. However, the middle and lower order collapsed under pressure from Anguilla’s disciplined bowling attack.

Richardson was the standout performer, claiming three for 36, with Andros Bowens collecting three for 25 and Shivnarine Benjamin snapping three for 15 in 3.3 overs, helping to wrap up the Antigua & Barbuda innings just short of the target.

This victory will boost Anguilla’s confidence in the tournament, with Hamilton’s explosive batting and their collective bowling effort highlighting the team’s balanced strength across all departments. Antigua will get the opportunity to redeem themselves when they take on Combined Islands on Thursday at Pigotts while Anguilla will battle Nevis at the SVRCS.
