Cabinet gets grant to transform Deluxe Cinema into National Performing Arts Centre

The Deluxe Cinema building on High Street will be repurposed into a National Performing Arts Centre, according to Cabinet notes.

The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved plans to begin work immediately on transforming the Deluxe Cinema building on High Street into a National Performing Arts Centre.

During Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, officials agreed that the project should be completed by late 2026, coinciding with Antigua’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The repurposed facility will serve as the new home for the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra (ABYSO) and will house a Theatre for the Performing Arts.

According to the Cabinet notes, the current tenant of the building will be given notice to vacate to facilitate the commencement of renovations.

The government anticipates that the new centre will provide a dedicated space for students engaged in Theatre Arts and Drama competitions from schools across the nation.

The Cabinet did not disclose the estimated cost of the renovation project or specific design plans for the new facility, but confirmed that they received a grant to complete the project.
