In a landmark effort to strengthen public health and community resilience, the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society (ABRCS) spearheaded a critical health screening initiative under its Mill Reef-funded Community Life-Line Project. Against the backdrop of growing concerns over non-communicable diseases (NCDs), the ABRCS conducted a full day of wellness screenings at the Barbuda Wesleyan Holiness Church, offering residents a chance to take control of their health.
From early morning to the early evening, the Red Cross team worked tirelessly to provide free cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar screenings and other health checks, addressing silent but deadly conditions such as hypertension and diabetes—illnesses that continue to affect populations worldwide. The turnout was impressive, with scores of residents seizing the opportunity to check their health status, reinforcing the importance of proactive care in a region where routine screenings may not always be accessible.
At the heart of the initiative were ongoing and powerful messages of prevention and awareness, which equipped persons with vital knowledge on lifestyle changes and early detection strategies. These underscored the urgent need for residents to take charge of their health and make informed choices that could ultimately save lives.
