Jamaican man who completed murder sentence given until May to leave A&B

A Jamaican national who recently completed serving a sentence for murder will have to leave the country by next month.

The man, Jeffrey “Nash” Campbell, a former Kentish Road resident, was serving time for the fatal shooting of Sylvester “Copper” Carbon, who was gunned down on April 10, 2013, in Grays Farm. Carbon was allegedly shot after leaving a shop and was walking along Bridge Road.

Campbell was expected to be deported from Antigua and Barbuda but asked Immigration officials for some time to wrap up some issues, before he departs for his country of birth.

Campbell’s attorney Michael Archibald told the court that he was not opposed to any deportation order but emphasized that his client, who had been living in Antigua and Barbuda since 2005 requires additional time as requested.

Archibald said that an Antiguan citizen was ready to stand as surety on Campbell’s behalf, stressing that the Jamaican man had served his time.

The magistrate agreed that since the man lived in Antigua and Barbuda for well over a decade, he must have accumulated personal items, requiring some time to properly dispose of them.

Campbell reportedly has children who were born in Antigua, but no longer reside in the country.

The Immigration Department has requested that the Jamaican man’s family purchase his return ticket to avoid the state bearing the expense.

Campbell was granted bail in the sum of $10,000, no cash, and one surety, who must be an Antiguan citizen.

In addition, an order was made for him to surrender his travel documents, which are already in the custody of the authorities.

While Campbell is organizing his issues, he is required to report to the Immigration Department every Monday and Thursday between 8:30am and 2pm.

He must leave the state on or before May 18, 2025 under the supervision of the Immigration Department.
