SKN launches email for public to submit traffic violation videos

The Government of St Kitts and Nevis has just launched an email, ([email protected]), that allows ordinary citizens to submit video evidence of traffic violations they witness.

The system comes with robust privacy protections. Submitters can choose to remain anonymous, and administrators handling the footage are legally prohibited from revealing identities under the Unauthorized Disclosure of Official Information Act – with criminal penalties for any breaches.

What’s particularly interesting is the financial incentive – courts can award whistleblowers up to EC$5,000 for submissions leading to convictions, with the money coming directly from the pocket of the offender.

This public reporting system accompanies significantly tougher penalties under the new Vehicles and Road Traffic Amendment Act. Reckless drivers now face fines between EC$6,000 and EC$8,000, while repeat offenders could see fines up to EC$20,000 and potential jail time.

To submit footage, citizens should include the date, time, and location of the incident, along with a brief description of the violation. Those concerned about privacy should explicitly request anonymity in their submission.
