Commissioner Rodney accepts Deputy Director position with RSS

Police Commissioner Atlee Rodney has accepted the position of Deputy Director with the Regional Security System (RSS) based in Barbados, Attorney General Cutie Benjamin announced today.

Benjamin said Rodney visited his office on Thursday to report he had been offered the “very senior post” and sought guidance on whether to accept it. The Attorney General said after discussing the “very attractive terms of the position,” he recommended Rodney accept the offer.

“Having discussed the very attractive terms of the position and the fact that an Antiguan and Barbudan would, for the first time, occupy such a senior position, I recommended that he accepts the offer,” Benjamin said.

Benjamin immediately contacted Prime Minister Browne, and together they expressed full support for the Commissioner’s professional move. The Attorney General noted this appointment “would enure to the benefit of security in the region and would reflect the high regard in which our country is held regionally in matters of national security.”

Arrangements are being put in place to fill the Commissioner’s position after his vacation ends and he proceeds on pre-retirement leave.
