Police issue alert on fake $20 bills circulating in Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten authorities have issued a public warning after discovering counterfeit $20 bills in circulation throughout the island.

The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) reported that several fake bills with identical serial numbers have been identified in recent transactions, prompting concerns about potentially wider distribution.

“Merchants, business owners, and individuals are urged to exercise caution when handling cash transactions. Please inspect all currency carefully and remain vigilant for any irregularities,” police said.

Anyone who encounters suspicious currency is being advised to contact the KPSM immediately at +1 (721) 542-2222 or to use the anonymous tip line at 9300.

Those uncertain about a bill’s authenticity are encouraged to consult with their local bank.

Police emphasized that prompt reporting of counterfeit currency is essential to support their ongoing investigations and to prevent further circulation of the fake bills.
