Stephen Hughes continued his goal-scoring prowess this season, adding another goal to his impressive tally to help his side to a two-nil victory over Glanvilles at home on Thursday in the Second Division of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA).
After a goalless first half, Tyler Anthony found the back of the net in the 60th minute before Hughes registered his conversion in the 79th minute to end the match 2-0.
Moreover, Hughes has been in devastating form in the Second Division, topping all scorers across the three divisions with 21 goals for Golden Grove FC from 13 matches. Seaview Farm FC’s Rhezal Gomes has found the net 17 times, while there’s an interesting four-way tie for third place. Zamaal Keinaja Greene (Belmont FC), Tyler Anthony (Golden Grove FC), Jahvier Joseph (Belmont FC), and Akeem Weekes (English Harbour FC) are all on 16 goals.
Across the ABFA’s divisions, the race for the Golden Boot is intensifying with several players showing exceptional scoring form in the 2024-25 season.
In the Premier League, All Saints United FC’s Raheem Deterville has established himself as the division’s most lethal finisher with 19 goals from 16 appearances. His teammate Joshua Ferdinand is in second place with 14 goals, while D’Andre Bishop (All Saints United) shares third position with Keon Greene (PottersTigers) with 12 goals each.
Other notable performances in the Premier League include Grenades FC duo Luis Ciudad Labrada and Eugene Kirwan, contributing to their team’s campaign with 10 and 8 goals respectively
The First Division sees Junior Benjamin of Ottos Rangers FC leading the charge with 12 goals in 10 matches, demonstrating remarkable efficiency in front of goal. Swetes FC’s Shalon Knight follows closely with 11 goals from eight games, while Darius Hector of Freemansville Scorpions holds third place with nine goals.
Also in the First Division, Malik Tejorhue Charles and Leon Moses Jr are among several players who are locked on five goals, setting the stage for an intense battle for top scorer honors as the season progresses.
