Government in Talks to Expand Aviation Training and Maintenance Facilities

The government is exploring opportunities to establish a flight school and expand aviation maintenance services in  Antigua and Barbuda, with discussions underway with potential investors.

According to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, efforts are being made to develop a comprehensive aviation training ecosystem, which would include a flight school and an aircraft maintenance facility.

He noted that while discussions have taken place with various groups, including investors from Trinidad, the government is assessing the feasibility of such initiatives.

Antigua and Barbuda already has a program at the  Antigua State College focused on aircraft maintenance, but Browne indicated that further investment is needed to expand training opportunities.

The aim, he said, is to position the country as a hub for aviation training and maintenance within the Eastern Caribbean.

The move aligns with broader government plans to strengthen the aviation sector, which has seen increased interest from airlines and private operators.

Officials have highlighted the potential economic benefits, including job creation and improved technical expertise within the region.

While no definitive agreements have been announced, Browne stated that the government remains committed to advancing the sector and will continue engaging with stakeholders to secure investment.
