Hard Summer Ahead for Hotel Workers as Occupancy Levels See Sharp Decline

Workers in the Hotel Industry can anticipate reductions in their work schedules as several major hotel properties are reporting sharp declines in reservations over the summer months.

The traditional slow season usually occurs between May and October each year, but the declines have been exacerbated by global economic challenges, and some hotels are anticipating occupancy levels in the single digits in the upcoming months.

To cope with the challenging outlook, several hotels have indicated that they will implement a system of reduced staff hours, along with a shortened work week, and consider temporary layoffs as a last resort option.

The hotels are however hoping for a return to normal hours of work once occupancy levels increase closer to the winter months.
