Following the snap General Election in Barbados, Deputy Leader of the United Progressive Party Jamale Pringle remains confident that his party will form the next government whether the election is called today or next year.
The next General Election is constitutionally due in 2023.
In anticipation of what could be a snap election here, Pringle who is also the Opposition Leader says the party will officially kick off its campaign on January 27.
“Knowing the system and how it works the Prime Minister has the power to call the election at will. It is for us, the opposition, to be ready whether or not it is from day one you should start preparing to know that. You don’t know when or what may cause the Prime Minister to call the election.”
“Whether it is tomorrow or 2023, we are ready and what we are doing is moving full force ahead in terms of our campaign. It will be launched on Thursday, 27th of January on Potters playing field. It is a driving launch where you stay in your vehicle and the sound will be amplified through the speakers in your vehicles.”
The Opposition Leader says the event has already received the approval of health officials and the police.
Pringle said, “We spoke with the Ministry of Health and they put certain guidelines in place. The Commissioner was pleased and he did grant us permission to do so.”
“I trust that they are pretty comfortable that we are all working together to minimize the spread of COVID 19,” he expressed.
