Former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst was pronounced dead on Sunday morning after jumping from a building in Manhattan, according to New York City Police Department.
The 30-year-old was crowned Miss USA in 2019, and was also a attorney who sought to help reform America’s justice system.
A statement from her family said, “In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie. Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined.”
The former Miss USA winner posted an Instagram photo before her death captioned, “May this day bring you rest and peace.”
Kryst was originally from North Carolina and worked as a correspondent for entertainment news site ExtraTV.
