Elderly and Immuno-compromised To Receive Booster Shots This Week

Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst confirmed on Friday that Covid booster rollouts for the most vulnerable citizens will begin next week.

“They are going to be very selective with those people who have or are taking immuno-suppressant drugs, so they have an immune system that is compromised and that will take place next week,” he said.

Hurst also confirmed that teams will administer the booster vaccines to elderly at their place of residence. According to the Cabinet notes, citizens will be able to receive their boosters within 10 days but not until after the specific groups have been catered to.

Last week, Cabinet members, first responders and frontline workers were among the first to receive their booster doses.

With the new Omicron variant on the rise, several countries are trying to nip it in the bud with the help of vaccination and booster campaigns. The variant is feared to be more transmissible than Delta and has been found in more than 25 countries worldwide.

So far, there are no reported cases of Omicron on Antigua and Barbuda.
