WestJet has returned to Antigua and Barbuda, providing another alternative for Canadians looking to escape the cold winter and visit the tropical twin-island paradise.
On Sunday, the Canadian airline resumed service to Antigua and Barbuda for the first time in over a year.
The WestJet flight arrived at V.C. Bird International Airport to a symbolic water cannon salute.
The advent of the airline was hailed as “excellent news” by the Minister of Tourism, who noted that Canada is a major source market for the nation.
The Honourable Charles Fernandez, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority stated, “Heading into the winter season, our tourism forecast is extremely positive as we see consumer travel confidence grow and demand the destination increase.”
The return of WestJet is a huge boost for the economy, according to Fernandez, who expressed his delight and optimism for the future.
“Within the last twenty months, we have put in place a number of measures to ensure all our visitors have a sun, sea, safe vacation in Antigua and Barbuda,” he ended.
