“Free COVID-19 Testing will soon come to an end,” Dominica’s government says

The government of Dominica says it will soon decide on the date to end the free testing of persons for COVID-19 after indicating that some people were taking the tests as a means of not taking the vaccines available to stem the curb of the virus.

To date, 3,293 people in Dominica have tested positive for COVID-19 in Dominica while 15 have died.

“The government will have to end this free testing because that is a practice by many because they do not want to get vaccinated, not for health reasons, but because they just do not want to get vaccinated,” Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said on his weekly television programme on Sunday night.

“Somebody has to pay for the testing at some point and at some later point I will indicate what is the cut-off point for this free testing that’s taking place in Dominica”.

Skerrit told viewers the cost of the free testing is borne by the taxpayers and one which the government could avoid “and could benefit all.

“There are small business people who are asking for money. But do I take the monies we are spending on COVID-19 and give it to small businesses and let people die? the PM questioned.
